Im thinking about buying some blooded preserved shad. There are also other preserved baits i would like to try...i never have luck really with any of the gulp baits so i thought i would try preserved baits

anyone use these or have luck?

I do good with baits ive preserved myself, aka Salmon and steelhead eggs. Ive also been experimenting with alewifes (Mi baitfish) I cure them in borax, salt and added scent.

i bought some of the preserved shad today...kind of different than what i thought but no luck in a half hour of fishing

ya that is the main reason i bought the shad for..im just waitin to try it on the river

Dont waste your time with those preserved shad. Ive tried like 3-4 bags of em with no luck. Tried em on the bottome under a bobber, still, slow retrieve, and moderate retrieves, not one bite on em to date.

If your going for catfish, my favorite baits are hot dogs (run a treble hook through it, if your not having luck with it spray it down with wd-40 before casting it out there), nightcrawlers on a treble hook of course, small live crappie or sunfish i catch fly fishing toss a 1 oz weight about 2 foot up and run a 4/0 or so round hook through the tail lips or back, small frogs same method or chicken livers (leave em under your hood or in the truck bed for 2-3 days before using so they are nice and "aged").
