Hi all, going on a 1 month holiday so trying to decrease the nitrate build up in the 180G whilst I am away. Automatic feeder but no one to do WCs. Usually I do 80% WC every 2 weeks to keep nitrates < 40. I use purigen and matrix in my canister.

How well does Nitrazorb work? Just looking at a temporary solution for this one off holiday, but if it works well, I might use it long-term just to keep nitrates ultra low. I would need 3-4 of those large pouches (each treats 55G). Can I just chuck them in the AC110 HOBs or must they go into the canister?

Thanks.

I tried something very similar a few months ago naively thinking the product would be an easier way to rid my water of nitrate than water changes. I put a couple of pouches down in my sump and tested my nitrate levels everyday. Previously to trying them i did my water changes every 6th day and during the few weeks i had the pouches in my sump i also ended up doing my water changes every........6th day!! They did nothing for me or if they did extract nitrate it was very minimal.

That sucks!! All just marketing then.

If you select the food to something with less protein and also reduce the amount of food, you should be able to reach the same goal over the month. Nitrate comes from the protein in the food, so that's a way to do it.

Of course this assumes the fish will eat the new food, which is a potential issue unless you have trained them on several different food types.

Good luck!

OK thanks. will do. Will increase component of seaweed and algae pellets/wafers and decrease bio gold etc.
