Hi all,

after I studied the basics concerning fishnutriton I finally came to average feed aquaculturists like carp- and trout-breeders use to take.

The advantages are much fishproteine and highly-unsaturated-fatty-acids.

Normally you can find those qualities in brands like Trouvit, Dana Feed, Skretting ....

Does anyone else feed those kinds?

:)

yes if take trout chow and add krill bugs and flys etc and mix it it's is a great food ...but many of the food today by Omega One and OSI are just as good if not better ..i should not leave out Jack Wattley's foods

Here in Germany Jack Wattley is just known recommending some Discus Food branded by "Tropical" a polish producer. But I am no Discus Specialist ;)

Actually I don´t know the brands you use specially, in general comparing the "professional" with the "hobby" feed I always find the difference in the fat ratio (here in Germany). Only the aquacultural feed shows richness in fishoil, I think it´s a matter of storage life.

So for example a protein/fat ration of about 1/2-1/4 for carps is great based on a quality of about 40% protein by fishmeal.

Of course I am just talking about a basic food, actually I mix the food myself on that basis adding Spirulina, Beta-Glucane, Astaxanthin, Garlic....and whatever for new pallets.

This basic food is much cheaper than all the other brands.

Why envy?

You got so great native fishes in the USA....

It's my understanding that, at least here in the U.S. the food used on fish farms are developed mostly for rapid growth in a short amount of time. The fish kept in these farms are not bred for any other reason except to butcher or stock ponds. Thus, the diet they get isen't developed to support the long term healthy of the fish. I suggest useing fish food made for fish we intend on keeping alive and healthy.

You will find that most people in the U.S. don't keep U.S. fish and don't even know about most of them.

In my opinion this is the biggest misunderstanding in general.

Actually I do not know much about fishfarming in the USA, but a lot more about german circumstances and the philosophy of fishfarming is not to produce fat fishes, of course they are supposed to meet the butcher at last, but fishhealth maintenance is the most important issue in fishfarming.

I think it is quiet more realistic to interpret the rapid growth as a matter of best support in growing by applying all necessities that are physiologically requested.

All the basic research concerning fishnutrition is done in the aquaculture and the scientists main aim is to find out what´s important for fishhealth.

I believe you cannot farm a fish for about 3 years until it´s big enough without providing best nutritional support.....esp. not for a whole stock.

The same here....

our natives are also really great but only some few are interested in them, because it takes a little more passion to see the beauty of them.

Well, once I had some Minnows (Phoxinus phoxinus)
like:

And spawning they got that great color, first I thought about Septicamia because they looked like bleeding.;)

just as Germany has made the Benz ...they have also created the Benz of filtration...not to mention your country side is so beautiful and you know how to cook up a great dinner.... shall we forget the beer
