I'm looking at putting an 70 gallon tank to use for a sump.
And was looking at threads using cheap plant's to help out.

But has anyone put a decent light over their sump and used plant's you can eat? what has worked for people?

May be more work than it's worth. BUT... Would be a great use of space and help the fish/water/plants and my dinners :)

i hope its ok to mention it here but there is a forum theplantedtank.net. it is all about planted tanks and such. many people with tons of knowledge. i have used that site for many years when i had my planted tanks.

I have used my window sump refugium to start garden plants, but I found even with a southern exposure, the plants grew a bit spindly, and after starting, were better off replanted in the garden.

Marginal bog plants such as papyrus have worked very well, and provide a great environment for raising gammarus shrimp that occasionally overflow into the main tanks giving the fish surprise snacks.
