Now that I have caught you interest, i have a tank that was given to my with is approx 45 gallons it has the same foot print as a 55 gallon tank but only 18 inches high. Anyway the top support brace is broken, is there anyone with experience repairing it, the top support was made of same plastic material that trim is made out of. I was thinking I could you use a piece of egg crate that was cut down to size but the only problem i would have is getting it to stay in place. Do you guys have any suggestions?

another thought, how about swapping the bottom trim (the center brace is intact) with the top trim piece? Is the center brace needed in the bottom of the tank? since the bottom of the tank is solid w/ glass should it still needed to be re-enforced with a center bracket?

Hi, a 2" wide .125" thick piece of aluminum with the ends bent @ 90* to fit across & over the glass. I've used sched. 80 pvc pipe on smaller stuff like this too, just cut slots for the glass. Do all measurements with the tank empty of course.

Ive used pvc cement or small stainless steel machine screws to hold a piece of plastic in place to keep the top braced.A 55g with a broken brace that was given to me was held together with a piece of wood screwed in with sheetrock screws,Stayed like that for years.
The easiest solution is get a new frame.I bought a few for about $13 each from a pet store. They ordered them from royalpetsupplies.com a company that only sells to retailers.
