anyone with experience with marbled walking catfish. i know they r illegal in CA but im just curious. they look really cool. i wanted to see what experiences other people here have had with them. i google them but found liitle info except they grow to 20 inches. do they have problems of any sort

Legal here - farmed fish here (found in paddy field and such). There are farmed hydribs? that are much larger than the native ones.

KInda boring fish if you want my 2 cents. They just eat like pigs and don't move around much.

They taste good:drool:
Really aggressive feeders...they'll push anyone out of there way for food. They don't have the best eye sight, so tank mates may have some nips from biting. Pretty active as long as there's food in the tank. Grows fast, anywhere from 16"-20" in aquariums.

they are very aggressive fish they killed my 1st 2 small red snakeheads an barge everything else out of the way they move super fast also

Hi; brand new to this site ....

I have a wonderful walking catfish who is now about 12" long and almost a year and a half old. Yes, she is a glutton and you can't keep small fish in the tank with her (I found out the hard way). She currently resides quite peacefully with 8 gouramis in a 110 gallon tank in my livingroom.

She has personality galore ... she swims to the top of the tank to grab earthworms from my fingers when I tap on the glass and 'splashes' happily in her gravelly substrate afterwards. She also eats feeder fish, whole algae tablets and my cat's kibble when I have nothing else to offer.
She is a very hardy fish, expected to grow to be approximately 2' long.

Walking catfish can (and will) jump out of the tank. I picked up a 7" walking catfish for my office from a home where it had developed the jumping habit. We had a small cutout for the filter and heater and never thought the fish would be able to squeeze through but it did one night. We found him the next morning behind the tank where he had been trapped but it was too late to save him.

I have had guppies, plecos, clown loaches, mollies, you name it but my absolute favourite is the walking catfish.
