Can't seem to find much infos on these guys. Just bought one today and would like to know a little more about them, such as how big do they get, are they harem breeders, etc.

Thanks in advance

BTW other fishes I pickup:

2x WC Fastaes I picked two that looks to be most likely males, even though I saw a few for sure females there. I just like the males more.

8x1-2" V. Synspilum from two different stores, four from each store.

Best part is I got all these fishes for 50% off, got coupons for them from the show this pass weekend.

They are in the "Geophagus" braziliensis group ... most things that apply to them will hold true for the Bahia's ... ie big (males can reach 12"), nasty compared to most geo's ( had a braziliensis take out a much larger Silversaum), pairing substrate spawning species.

That's awesome, I have always wanted to keep braziliensis. They have three more left so I might go back and get them all. Just want to make sure I get a male for show in the future.

Thanks for link

I love the patterns on their fins.

I know there's at least two different types of brasiliensis, one with the black mark through the eye while the other doesn't have it. I'm pretty sure there's a few others.

I think 'Geophagus' iporangensis has been the only one described yet, but could be wrong. Basically they are breaking the species into several new ones much like what happened to the festivum and others. Bahia red is one of the new, undescribed ones. They are deffinately a good looking one to be sure.

The bahia red will stay quite a bit smaller than G. brasiliensis. More along the lines of 8" for males and 4" for females. Common substrate pair breeding. Can breed at quite a small size.

I don't find them as good looking as the "normal" G. brasiliensis, but that's just me.
