Is there anyone here with an actinic blue light that can show me how it looks? I'm in the progress of changing out my setup to make it look like it's saltwater with freshwater fish so I'm going to put an actinic blue light and I'm going to change to a lighter substrate, perhaps a lighter tan sand or white sand, but I just wanted to see how it looks and get some opinions

I have a t 5 light on my 50 breeder and tried using just an actinic,,the tank was dark and very blue. I also put in full sunlight bulb and made big differance. The effect you are looking for you would need 2 bulbs imo.

My opinion is similar to above. Tried it once and imo I don't think you'd like it, not unless you have only blue fish and even then you may not like the overall effect on the tank. Yes, it exaggerates blues, but also distorts or washes out most other colors. To me it did not create a deep water effect at all but only made the tank look fake. It also made my fish skittish, which they would probably have gotten over eventually, but I hated the effect anyway, so wasn't going to wait and find out.

IMO if you wanted to go that direction you'd be happier with a 50/50 or by mixing with other lights as others suggested.

What would be a good light then? Because when ever I get one I can't decide if I like it that much, I think it's just my rocks that are making me mad because I want whiter rocks and more black or grey rocks instead of the tan colored ones I have now
