So i have my jack Dempsey and black line pike in my 20 gal until i get my 55gal up and running again. There is a divider in the 20 gal to keep them separate but that doesn't leave them much room to swim. They both try to get territorial when they are next to each other and they fight. So i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to keep them together for the time without a divider? Like would removing the caves help?

i think thats gonna be a tough one IMO.

im thinking there is two behaviors there expressing. one is dominant and wants to pick on the other, or both want there territory and want to defend it.

if just one is dominant, and chases the other. Im gonna say that a 20 gallon is to small. just not enough space. i think they might work in a 55 with a few dither fish tho.

if both are squaring up to defend territory, i dont think they are gonna work in a 55 gallon either. ive tried to mix pikes and cichlids a few times and they always wanted to square up and lock jaws with one another. ive had mixes work fine but it depends on the individual fish. some ive just accepted that they will be in their own tank all the time.

just my opinion tho. u can always give it a try and see what happens, but make sure u monitor it alot. u can generally tell if its gonna work or now pretty quickly.

There both the same size and the depsey is the one that starts the fights by opening his mouth wide, the pike will respond back and do the same but I doubt they will work out together ina 20 without a divider
