i just got one of these guys the other day. his carapace length is about 3". he/she is eating very voraciously. right now he's in a toddler bath tub with a 1 1/2" baby snapper, two 4" sliders/yellow belly, and an old 5" painted. they're equipped with a uvb and a basking lamp which heats the water to 75 degrees F. a few of the bigger turtles picked on it at first, but it seems to be holding it's own against them, being very nippy and fast. it's getting crowded in the tub so im hoping to move the hatchings when they get a bit bigger so they can grow.
so anyways, does anyone have any expertise and advise f. softshells and keeping them happy. i know they can get very big, especially females, is there a way to sex them when they're still hatchings?

not to mention that a snapper could do some fatal damage to a soft shell or any of those other fish

yeah

k i will. im getting a 30 gal this week. i was concerned about the snapper. the other turtles however do okay, im just worried they're being annoying cause they're all up everywhere.

That "setup" is a time bomb waiting to happen, only the sliders and the painted are compatible. Both the snapper and the softshell can do letal or at least disfiguring permanent damage to one another and to the other turtles. Sliders can also be bullys. Its is VERY inportant to learn how to avoid biting more than you can chew. Both the florida(even if male) and the snapper will get huge and will need at least a gigantic tank or a garden pond(one for each that is;)) There is absolutley no way you can sex any of the turtles now. Get several at least 60 liter tanks and then we will see:nilly:

Do you have any pics of your setup? What filter are you running? Substrate?

Impossible to provide the proper setup with all of those turtles together, not too mention the compatibility issues already mentioned.
