Hey guys, well about a month ago I got my 4 discus fish and they were great. The biggest one showed his dominance over the others, and the second biggest showed dominance over the two smaller ones...and so forth. Well mabe 4 days ago the biggest one would just stare at the back of the tank and hover vertically in a 2 or 3 inch pattern without eating.

Well me being new to discus i thought it might be a schooling thing, so i bought 4 more. he still does it. i bought some General Cure thinking he might have that hexamit thing. i dosed my tank according to the instructions...well i have a 75 and put 8 packs in, so maybe alittle more.

that stuff is expensive so all i bought was 2 packs. when devided with some kind of intelligence it said to dose it 1 pack per 10 gallons, then wait 48 hours and then redose, but that leaves me with 4 unused packs...how should i encorporate that into the doses?

nevermind...i think i figured it out. without straying from the directions too much. i will do a 5 gallon change tomorrow and add 2 packs. the next day i will add 8 packs. then i will do another 5 gallon change and add 2 packs. and exactly 96 hours later i will do my 50% water change every day.

if anyone has a better idea of distributing the meds then let me know. but i really think i figured it out.

IMO, you should'nt be medicating the fish unless you are sure of what your medicating them for. you said you think it might be hex. you may have one fish that will get bullied no matter what. or one fish that will be a bully. they are cichlids. it's what they do. you may be doing much more harm by using meds for what you think might be wrong.

I agree with 3dees good advice. Discus are a timid fish and if there is a lot of movement or noise around the aquarium discus may have the tendency to want to hide or try to hide from it. A natural trate of the discus is they go like dormit and they don't move around a lot and may quit eating for a bit this is natural thing they do. If the discus looks normal and seems ok just keep the water changed keep things normal as they were and watch the fish for other signs before useing meds. Change your water and don't use meds and watch them for a bit the fish should start moveing around as normal or if you see any other sign of the fish being ill let us know and someone will help you.
