API WATER TEST KIT

Nitrite at 160ppm. Is my test kit gone bad ? It has an expiry in .2019. Regular water changes weekly. 80%.
Minimal feeding mostly frozen fish and shrimp 3 times a week. Food Gone in2 or 3 minutes. No fishies gone yet.

Any ideas ?

I've had 2 API nitrate kits go bad after 3-6 months, not exactly sure what is going wrong with them. I'm now using another brand and haven't had any dramas

I should add that the problems I was having were the same as yours... Readings of 80+, no matter how many water changes I did.
