i was wondering what the compatibility was between apistogrammas geophagus and german rams? the guy at the lfs said apisto a geo was fine but no german ram cuz to similar of shape to the apisto. didnt think it made much sense. any input is appreciated

Had that setup some time ago in a 55. It was a disaster. Everyone killed each other off. Highly planted, everything was right. Just didn't work. I had a few rams, a few cacatuoides, and a few agassizi.

I've had great luck keeping Rams and Apistos (Cacs) together with no issues... I've done this on several occasions... in both large (125 gal) and small (29 gal) tanks...

And since when are Rams and Apistos the same shape? One is bullet shaped the other is disc shaped... but Rams and Geos are sort of the same shape, but different enough to not confuse them. I think your LFS guy was too high to be at work when you talked to him. :-S

As far as adding Geos to your Ram/Apisto stocklist... I'm sure it would heavily depend on the Geo. Some are more aggressive than others and some get larger than others. I'm no Geo expert so I'll let others suggest which may or may not work... but naturally the smaller growing less aggressive ones...

Yeah, lol. Let me clarify my post, I was not agreeing with that statement, just stating my one and lone experience. I have seen gorgeous setups with the two, it just for some reason did not work for me.
