Hi, How are you all ? Hope everything is good.
I have got two questions. Would be great if you can help me out on them.
1) I have a dozen juvenile borellii in a 35gal long tank. They are eating properly and are active.Unfortunately one or two keep dying once a week or so. I have currently ended up with 6 out of the 12. The fish have been in the tank for about 1.5 month now. Tank parameters are normal (RO water, ph-7, hardness 110ppm, nitrates <8). I am unable to find why my fish are dying without any reason even though they are eating normally.
2)The size of the borellis is about an inch now and all of them are showing a golden tinge on the body. Is it a possibility that i ended up with all females or shall i wait till they grow up a bit?
Thanks and Regards

Temp and pH are known to effect sex ratio.
And temps in the low 60'sF high 50sF are not uncommon in the Argentine and southern South American native waters they come from.
Where many fish come from stable temp environments, these cichlids move into flooded grasslands to spawn, day to night fluctuations are the norm, much like Herotilapia multispinosa of Costa Rica where day water temps may be in the 90sF and fall into the 60sF at night.

Would agression be a possibility? 12 cichlids - even at just an inch - in a 35gal doesn't leave alot of room to establish territories. Just an idea.

The temp is 26 C, i dont think they are dying because of agression as they have not yet matured. All they do is just eat and eat.
