I just got three pairs of these guys shipped to me last week. They have settled in nicely, and are doing well in my 60g planted cube tank (24x24). I know once they start breeding I will only be able to keep 1-2 pairs but for right now, everyone is getting along fine :) Here are a few pics...

Not to burst your bubble, but to me those look like A. Macmasteri.

I'm far from 100% though :)

Amazing looking little fish regardless! Congrats!

Ps. all 4 pictures are males

Thanks :) They are so much fun to watch.

Lol, yup I know there are all males in the pictures. The females are much more shy and I couldn't get a good shot of any of them.

As far as their ID, I'm interested to know what people think. I won't be disappointed if they are A. Macmasteri, since I had been looking for some a while back and couldn't find any. It'd be nice to know for sure what they are though. If anyone else has any opinions on this, I'd love to hear them.

Very cool looking little guys.

Thanks :)

They look almost exactly like my A. macmasteri. I've heard from more than one people that most A. viejita in the hobby are bred from A. macmasteri, but I have no idea if it's indeed the case.

Whatever they are they are good looking little fellas!

Huh that's interesting. I wonder if it will become more obvious what they are as they grow. I had a pair of what I believe were true Viejita a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, they didn't acclimate to my hard water very well and I lost them soon after. I do remember the males having a much more yellow color to them though. The females were mostly yellow also. These guys have a much more gray body and the females are gray as well which look like pictures of some of the macmasteri I have seen. Regardless, I'm really enjoying these little guys :)

Those look great. All that space for them lil guys..lucky fish.

Thanks so much :) They have to share the tank with some other fish, so the space isn't just for them, but they seem to be enjoying all of the caves and driftwood that I threw in there for them. I'm not sure how many pairs I'll be able to keep in there long term. I'm hoping two, but we'll see how things go.
