i have a 55 south american biotype tank and i was wanting to put a couple apistos in it. I was just wondering if they can be in a 7.6 Ph because i have kept geophagus and they died all of a sudden i was thinking it was the ph so what do you guys think

I would think you could acclimate them to your water, but i have not kept apistos.i do keep SA cichlids.chocolates,geos-red hump- blue acaras,in a 90.my tap is 7.2 I don't adjust,I have a lot of wood which help lower PH.have not checked PH in a while.are u sure u lost the geos to PH? What filtered u run, geos like sand to sift.

Go for captive bred apistos not wild ones. The wild ones come from water where the PH is around 5. A jump that large would certainly kill it. Most will argue that but that's a large enough difference for a death by PH is likely.

On the plus side, look up triple red apistos and cockatoo apistos. These are largely available and captive bred.
