i just picked some of these up at a local pet store, and was just wondering if anyone had ever tried them. i wanted to get pre grown plants but i dont have the money and didnt want to pass it up. i figure ill just put them in my guppy tank but just wondering if anyones had them and how long they take to grow?

mine grew quite fast in a week or two, best thing is you often get real nice species cheap this way theres always a mixup in packaging to be had out there.

I have them in 3 planted tanks right now. They do grow fast and when they flower you might end up with some new plants you didn't buy. I put 10 in one tank and have since put the seeds thay started to grow in the other two tanks. All are doing excellent and I might have to start concidering a 4th tank soon for plants.

thank you very much. i would be very happy with thriving and reproducing plants as i have multiple tanks i can put them in and plans for many more.

I have about 6 in my 30g. Fast growers, fairly cheap and easy to grow, and good overall. Oh, and the best thing about it is it's a bulb. Not only is it easy to grow, but the bulb helps supply nutrition, making fertilizer not necessary.

The bulbs typically do well. I've heard hit or miss stories, but if they do grow, aponogeton plants, in general, are very nice, usually very cool looking plants.

Sure, for the short term. The bulb is designed to store nutrients, so that the plant can survive periods of low-nutrients. It's not designed to live off of the bulb for extended periods of time.

How do they do with chiclids?

Might want to narrow that down, there's only about 2000 species of cichlids...
