I have a few question's about snail's i'm hoping you guy's can help me with .
1) I have 29 snail's 7 of them being the stripey one's above ,i think they are pomecea canaliculata .I have them in with pomecea bridgesii/diffusa , if they are cana's should i keep them seperate ?
Will the 2 species mate ?
2) A couple of them have a small crack starting on thier shell's , i have some crushed coral i'm going to put in and am now feeding them assorted veg after reading up on here .Will this be enough for the shell's heal or do i need to add calcium aswell ? What sort of calcium do you guy's use ?
3) I have 2 bamboo shrimp's , 3 khuli's & a ansistrus plec in with the snail's , Will these guy's be ok with the crushed coral & calcium ?
Any advise would be much appreciated .

Will the 2 species mate ? The two species cannot interbreed, though they will mount each other. Bigger problem is that cana's are much more voracious feeders and can out compete the bridgesii for food. For this reason, its usually preferred to keep them seperate.

What sort of calcium do you guy's use ? It may not "fix" their shells, but will prevent further damage. The shells should seal over on the inside if cracked or pitted but will retain some cosmetic damage. I make homemade foods and add powdered calcium for reptiles (Jurassi-cal without phosphorus) to the foods. I do'nt like the pills and tums because they cloud the water and leave residue. Another idea is that you can make homemade plaster puckks (with daps or home depot brand plaster) as these will buffer and the snails will graze on them.

Comments above. You can also dose kent's liquid calcium if you like, but be sure to dilute it and not add it so that it comes in immediat and direct contact with the snails.

I believe the crushed coral will raise PH, BN's, kuhlies and Bamboo's like the water to be soft, so it may not be good for them, perhaps a separate tank would be better....
Kuhlis and BNs should be fine. They an adapt readily to the changes compared to most other fish. Dojos, kuhlis and hillstream loaches are the only loaches I have observed to ignore snails especially those with operculums (trapdoors). Dead snails will be eaten obviously and any claim involving snails being eaten by the aforementioned loach species is purely coincidental. Watch the mouth anatomy. It does not dictate snail predation contrary to popular beliefs.

My BN plecos and whiptail clean their shells. Nerites also help with the job but nerites tend to use up calcium easily so you may have to replenish it by more water changes from time to time. Weekly water changes should do otherwise frequent water changes are required if the bioload is very heavy as apple snails are poo machines.

I keep my diffusas and canas separated. Rachel answered it correctly. I noticed my canas growing rather quickly and hogging all the foods while diffusas are just too slow to eat and take their time even to the point sharing with the plecos.

The calcium supplements are up to you. It's you who decide. Hard water is fine and you don't have to use calcium supplements unless your water is soft although I still use them. I don't mind spending part of my wallet for the snails. They're pampered.;) As for foods, veggies, snail jello, plaster of Paris pucks and reptile foods are what I used. I look for foods with high calcium rate. I still haven't received seaweeds to try for my snails. Sigh...I'll contact my friend again.

Better pic of the black & gold one's . I bought them as diffusas but think they are canna's , they are growing much faster than my gold diffusas and seem faster at meal times .
