I have an apple snail in my 55 that I've had for almost a year now. I'm moving most of what's in my 55 to a small 90 gal pond that I just built and will be turning the 55 into a biotope. Any ideas if the lil fella is going to be ok in a pond? I mean he won't wonder off, will he? I've never seen him try to climb out of the water since he's been in the tank, but that's a little different from a pond. And what about the plants I'm growing in the pond? Any idea what kind of havoc he'll reek on lilly pads and cattails?

Depending on the amount of food and quality / temp of the water in the pond are considerations as to whether it tries to relocate or not.

I would probably be more concerned about something trying to relocated it for you.

Are you going to have a cover?

How big is he anyway?

yep the snail itself will do fine

no cover. Or at least not yet. I also wondered about something coming around and eating him. I'm hoping I don't end up having to put a cover of some kind on it. Right now I'd say he's probaly around 3 1/2" The temperature will probably be between 70 - 75. Maybe a little warmer during summer. I'm about 40 miles NW of Orlando and about 50 miles SW of Daytona. As for food, I'm sure he'll stay happy.

cover it cats, coons, egrets will eat it if they can

Well maybe I'll just put him in one of my 10gals. I'd rather not cover it if I don't have to.

Maybe it's for the better...Just thro in an algae tablet every once in a while.

He likes peas. I once caught him trying to shove two peas in his mouth at the same time. He's pretty entertaining for a snail.

Here he is trying to gobble down a big chunk of imitation crab meat.

And here he is trying to attack a fake plant.

Cute.

I watched one of mine climb all the way to the top of a tall plant only to be deposited back onto the gravel when the leaf bowed from the weight. Poor thing was right back where he started.
