My ginormous apple snail twice now has become a floater and just floats at the top of the aquarium for a few days, almost like its dead. Then it just seems to get back to normal.

Any idea what its doing?

That is not abnormal behavior. Does this floating seem to happen when your nitrates get higher?

Couldn't hurt to test your water.:) What do you feed it?

It happened after I did a water change so this could be it. Can you tell me more about this line of thinking?

I don't target it with anything. I just let it eat what it can get. It did start moving yesterday (while floating at the top) and it appeared that it was taking a dump. Then it went back into its shell and is still floating.

They are sensitive to nitrates as well as nitrites and ammonia. When your nitrates creep above 20 or so, it would not be uncommon for them to be stressed and act like it is.

I just did a partial water change, maybe one quarter to one third of the tank.
