Will my cichlids try to eat an apple snail if I introduce it to the community? What if I get the snail bigger than the fish? The fish are all still pretty small. I know I asked this in the invert section already but I wanted to ask the cichlid gurus what they thought too. There's also a synodontis decorus, a royal plec, and a green arowana in the tank. Can I get one and have it live or will it just be carnage?

I don't know how big your fish are and I'm not positive, but I'd be surprised if they would eat a 2" or bigger apple snail.

I have apple snails in with a Mean OLd Flowerhorn and a GT and they don't even acknowledge it's there.

I love apple snails, good luck with it!:woot:

my oscar eats all smaller snails whole havent tried apple snails with him cause the pleco with him has killed and eaten applesnails before
I keep applesnails in my mbuna fry tanks but have to take them out after a while cause they start pecking at the snails.

Well, I guess I got both sides of the spectrum here huh. Thanks for the help though. I guess its another one of this hit or miss things. Guess I will just have to find the biggest meanest snail in the store! LOL
Thanks everyone. I will let you know how it goes. Off to the LFS!

Ok so I got some snails. They are not apple snails as no one around had them in. I got the biggest other ones I could find. They are called gold inca snails. Probably just another name for mystery snails right? They are about an two inches large. When I put them in there all the cichlids rushed to it but then they ignored it. When the snails started to move around my 5 inch royal plec got all mad and started frontin it. It was funny. Full fin show and everything. He even went as far as to knock the snail around with his body a bit and suck on the top of his shell. But he got tired of doing this after a while since the snail just hid in the shell and he moved on. But it looked pretty cool. Should I be worried that the plec would kill or eat the snails?

My plec is over 9" and doesn't seem to ever mess with my apple snail. Not sure about an inca snail though.
