Hi,

I hear mixing these 2 snails is not a good idea. I hear larger apple snails will prey on the smaller ramshorns. Is this true? I know and LFS that sells big apple snails. All are golf ball size and bigger.

The Pomacea diffusa are fine. Canas, on the other hand, can easily outcompete the ramshorns for foods. Juvenile canas are also very aggressive. They're prone to cannibalism in general and mine ate several small counterparts (not their own species).

I do not know what kind they are. I will take a pic when I go to the LFS in about a week or so. I'll post the pic then. All I can say is they are dark and appear to have dark stripes or some type of marking.

Both species have stripes. I'll just wait for the pics to be more accurate in identifying them.

The first one looks like a cana. Is the second pic the same snail? I just noted you mentioned they sell apple snails golfball size and bigger. Chances are good they're canas. These ones will starve ramshorns to death or even eat the younger ones.

Not the same snail in each pic but both in the same tank. What if I were to grab one of those "mystery snails" instead? Would one of those be safe with Ramshorns? Can they tolerate temps in the mid 60s to low 70s? Thx

The adult ramshorns may be fine. If the snails are well fed, I doubt they'll attack the ramshorns. They're tolerant to that temp range, yes.

Should have told me, I have those as well :)

I keep my diffusa in unheated tanks and they do well. The lower temps slows their growth and helps with their shell thickness.
