Post the best cichla tank mates in your order of compatibility.

1) More Cichla! (obviously)

2) Arowana (classic 1-2 combo)

3) FW Stingrays (make sure your cichlas can't be gobbled up by your rays)

4) Datnoids (watch out for size differences, your cichla can easily out grow your datnoid, but your datnoid can hold his own, i know mine can anyway.)

This is what I currently have in my tank and everyone is living together in harmony. If you have any question about there compatibility feel free to pm me.:D

I used to have a dat w/ my 2 peacocks-every now and then the dat would chase after the bass-not sure if the dat thought they too were dats (because of the stripes lol) but all in all, not bad for a tankmate!

my p-bass was chilling with an aro and retic ray.......now it wis with same aro, some silver $'s, a clown knife..........gonna see how a dat goes in the equation come saturday.......

stay tuned for results

sounds about right pare :D

are we supposed to post with what we currently have in our tanks?
or what we think as an overall are the best tankmates?

pretty sure he wants overall best.

I don't think there are too many 'perfect' tankmates. It's more of finding the balance between fish that aren't too agro for the bass but can still get enough food to be healthy. A lot depends on the temperment of both fish. And having fish that can keep up w/ their growth rate, which can be a game of tankmate size, too.

agreed....i bet if the cichla could choose, theyd only want feeders for tankmates....to eat of course.

whats worked best for me so far are:
bichirs, clean up very well after the pbass.
the bigger species only of course.
oscar, looks great with them and dont do them any harm.
messy as the pbass though..
arowana, look great with them and dont seem to interact with them very much.
perruno, cleans up very well and keeps up with growth.

i'll think of more...

my orinos are to aggro for most fish i buy :(
any suggestons?

I agree w/ channa bichirs are another classy addition to a cichla tank as well as the others mentioned.

Ive got an aro, bichirs and a ngt dat as well as a couple channel cat growouts in w/ my mono. I need more cichla...anyone have any extra's in the 6''-10'' range?
