A friend of mine, also a member on this forum, is building his own tank and is wondering how thick the acrylic needs to be. Its gonna be a 2000mm * 600mm front window. Tank is gonna be 2000*1200*620.
I have seen tanks done in 15mm and have held for years. I suggested 3/4" for added safety factor as I think 15mm is a little on the thin side. You will see a lot of bowing out of 15mm.
rightie.. I was unable to post myself but now I'm here.. This is what it will look like, anyways.. Acrylic is EXPENSIVE over here.. the 20mm will set me back 6-700$ and the 15mm a lot less.. I'm not willing to risk 400+gallons on the floor but if it's possible to do it with a 15mm front it would be great.
IMO anything up to 620mm (24") tall would be ok with 15mm (.59"). There might be some bowing with that but it shouldn't be too drastic if any. Anything above 620mm that would be 20mm for sure (.78").
