aqua clear 500

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It will give you a 3x turnover depending on media.

Is this a filter you already own?

Do you have other aeration / oxygenating means?

How big / old are the discus' & ray?

Have you had them long?

Personally I would go with more filtration, just diffuse the current (return water).

im only using bio media no carbon my discus are about 3 inches and ray is around 6 inches ive got some air wands in aquarium for oxygen what about 2 aqua clear 500s would that be enough filteration i appreciate info dr joe

I believe so, atleast till they get full size and your not prone to over-feeding, then you may consider a canister for extra filtration if you can't go with a W/D.

Vary the length of the intake lines to get all depths too.

Any pix of your mini-Monsters? :D

I would go with 2 AC 110's to be safe. Both fish you have in the require pristine water and the ray is a pretty messy eater. An extra canister full of bio media or better yet, a wet/dry would be great on that setup as well.

thanx guys for the info ill go with 2 ac 500 my discus breeder says he doesnt reccomend cannister filters for discus tanks i dont know why just said he didnt dont have pics yet but will soon

Canister are said to compete with the tank inhabitants for oxygen, but there are ways to areate. Also warmer temps for discus means less O2 content in water. Srry I can't comment on the Ac110 never have used one. I'd run an Emporer 400 with no cartiges and do 2 40% water changes a week. With that much water changing going on you can siphon out most all of the debree.

Thats what I would have said, get 2.

I use a AC 110 on my 75 as well as a Fluval 304 and a Hydro sponge IV hiding in the back corner. I also do a 30% water change once a week and have had very good results.
