Aqua Clear 70 Power Filter Making Noise

Hi, my Aqua Clear 70 makes noise, and it sounds like it is coming from the impeller. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks

Is the filter new or used. If used check the impeller shaft to see if it is worn uniformly. If the filter is new then most likely there is something stuck in the impeller well or you have an air bubble stuck in there. It could also be the j-tube isn't sitting correctly on top of the impeller chamber.

The filter is used. I tried to clean it out, but I will take it off and look at it again. I did notice that the impeller looks loose in the motor when it is on.

impellers for those are cheap like 10-15 bucks at any lfs (or chain) that carries hagen stuff

Flush out the impeller cavity and impeller. Coat the impeller shaft and impeller with a thin coat of food safe silicone lube. Wait a few days. They tend to quiet down a bit as they get slimed-up from running.

I might just try replacing the impeller.

do u have sand in the bottom of ur tank? coulda worked its way into the impeller and be grinding gears in there

Yeah, bigger grain sand...

okay well u may wanna check inside to see if any of it got in there....if its big enough other wise just replace the impeller
