Just a quick question out of these two filiters witch is the better the Aqua Clear or the Emperor. I have a Small Aqua Clear and i really like it but the Larger one is like 70 at my lfs and the Emperor is like 50. Is the Aqua Clear worth the extra 20?

order off the internet....

I like both but I would pick the AC110 over the Emp. As a tip: don't use the crappie carbon bag that comes with it, unless you need to remove meds. Fill the extra space with more Bio-media.

ditto all around. I love Aquaclears and really don't care at all for Emperors. it seems to be much easier to clog the emperor drastically decreasing the flow rate. also, the aquaclear is much easier to maintain. all you do is rinse out the sponge in a bucket of tankwater every other week or whenever the flow rate is disrupted by the gunk in the sponge.

check out www.bigalsonline.com. I believe the AC110 runs $36 and they sometimes put it on sale for a few dollars cheaper. if you're worried about shipping...don't be. the most I've ever paid for shipping was like $12 and that was on a ~$270 order.

Shipping is free on orders over 50 bones from Big Al's....I always preferred Aquaclears' beacuse they are nearly silent, but I think the bio wheels on the emperor are a far superior bio medium due to the wet/dry action.....

This is why I like the Emps/penguins.... But I do agree that the prefilter cart clog rather easy.

Aquaclear's really move the water more... go with the AC110:thumbsup: less of a pain in the ***

aqua clear all the way  , But a good sump wet dry system is all ways the best route :D

I agree - with the hang on filters i've had, my fav is aqua clear. Never had a problem with them.

supposedly, it's really easy to add a bio wheel to an AC 110 using 2 Penguin 170 bio wheels and an appropriately sized metal rod. of course you'd have to drill small holes in the side of the filter and I'm sure there was even more to it than that. I've thought about trying this several times but haven't gotten around to it. :)

I have them both em 400 and ac500 I think emperor dose a better job on biolgical and AC on mechanical .I fill media trays on the emperor with matrixs{bio_media}and use a air pump to run air over media speeds up bioload and helps filter run faster, ether way both good filters . big als is the way to go
