Hi guys,

I'm new. I'm in the UK, and I started fishkeeping in March. I only have a small tank - I'm not really at the stage for huge fish just yet, but I joined cos of the wicked videos and interesting discussions.

Right now my small tank is a Juwel Rekord 70, with a few little melon barbs in it - yeah, I know what you're thinking: really monstrous! ;)

Thing is, it also has a couple of pictus in it, and although they just lie about all day, they obviously need more space as they grow, and would be happier in a small gang rather than just the two of them.

There are also two little bristlenoses in there, who keep having babies, but anyway...

By Christmas, I am hoping to have got a larger tank, so that I can better house the catfish I have, maybe increase the number of pictus to 4 or 5, and maybe have a couple of other slightly larger cats (maybe snowdrops or small S.A. synos), or small cichlids.

The tank I have been looking at is the Aqua One Regency 100. I just wondered if anybody here had any experience of these tanks, and whether you think that such a tank would be suitable for my needs.

I can't really have a tank much larger than that, but I liked the tank because it is very high-fronted, and has a good capacity for the pictus, who despite being bottom-dwellers spend a lot of time swimming high up into the tank .

The tank is next to my computer, and I can hear them squeaking right now.

Thanks everyone - great site you got here.

when you say aqua one 100 are you referring to the gallons... how about you give us the dimensions and we will give you some answers... not sure what the gallon size is on the tank so it is really hard maybe I will try and look it up the internet is the smartest person I know...

No, just the name of the tank - its called a 100 because its a metre long. I was primarily looking for advice from people who either have this tank, or who have avoided it - either way I assumed that they would be familiar with the dimensions. My apologies - I would also welcome the opinion of anyone else, as to whether this tank would be suitable.

The dimensions are:

100cm long, 40cm front-to-back and 70cm high. The capacity is listed as only 220 litres, but since the tank uses external filtration the true internal capacity is 265 litres. That works out at about 70 US liquid gallons.

The tanks are supplied with 1000L/h filters. Considering how nice they look, I don't understand why they aren't provided with filter/heater units instead, since the little glass heaters they supply with the tanks look (in my opinion) a bit ugly hanging in the corner.

Hiya Fatwoul, welcome to MFK. Congrats on breeding the bristlenose. Adding the other pictus and a small group of congo tetras of a pair of apistogrammas would pretty much max out a 70gallon.

Maybe I'll just stick to the pictus then. The melon barbs are going to stay put in their current tank, and I reckon I will probably only ever have one of the bristlenoses in the 70 gallon (to give the male a rest from baby duty, which has made him ill in the past - he was the first hit by ich a while back because he wasn't able to eat and keep his strength whilst guarding babies).

So it's looking likely that the 70 gallon will really just have a small gang of pictus - no more than 5 - in it.

Thanks guppy.

So, does anyone have any experience of the Aqua One tanks themselves?

No experience with Aquaone tanks, yet. I hope to get a Windsor88 for my Diamond rhombeus. They look nicer than Juwel Trigons IMO. And i like the fact that you can have either one, or two lights on as they work independantly of each other.

Ta.

Really, DAZZA? Do you know if the same is true of the other AquaOne tanks? I like to have a blue bulb come on earlier and go off later in my tank, to simulate dusk and dawn, so if the lights in all AquaOne tanks can be operated independently that would be great.

Thanks for replying Daz - let me know how you get on with your Windsor88 when you get it.
