I have been using an AquaC Ramora Protien Skimmer with the Marineland Mag 1200 pump on it for four months now.

It is running on my 20 gallon marine tank. My problem is that it will fill the collection cup up every single day with clear'ish water. Sometimes the water is a yellow with debris in it. This is my first marine tank and it is my understanding that the collection cup should be collecting a sludge like skimate. On occation it has produced a dry foam but 9 out of 10 days it will produce a collection cup full of water.

I test my water at least once a week and I do a 20% water change every 2 weeks. So far I have had no problems with any of my fish or invertebrates. I still have the first critter that I have added and the tank seems to be maturing very well. This skimmer thing has been pretty consistant too throughout this different stages of the new tank.

I was wondering that, given the small tank size, would a smaller pump on the skimmer, the Rena 900, be a better fit and maybe produce better results? I would rather have some input before I purchase another piece of equipment.

Thanks in advance

Do you still have the rubber ring that goes around the collection cup? If so, which you should, you should move the ring down which will make the cup sit up higher and your skimmer will skim dryer stuff rather than the water you have been getting.

+1

Also if that does not solve your problem the website for aqua c skimmers has a "Contact Page" where ou can email them problems. I emailed them about a situation that involved me adding addictive and the skimmer overflowing with regular tank water and dumping it all over my floor... in the matter of hours :irked:

I contacted the website, but I have not recieved a response. I reread the instructions and they specifically say to not use water conditioner. I use them to declorinate my water. I use tap water in my tanks. So, that being said, I am going to try to aerate my top off water in a five gallon bucket for three days and see if this clears up the problem. I live a little bit out in the sticks and RO is out of reach unless I buy a unit.

So since my last post I have started declorinating the water in a five gallon bucket. I leave the water in the bucket for 3 days with an airstone and a heater in it. As needed I have added this water to the tank to top it off and it has solved the problem and all the livestock are doing great. The skimmer is now producing lots of dry skimmate and working properly.
