So yesterday I was looking behind one of my tanks and discovered water everywhere. "Fortunately" it was just my aquaclear 110 leaking. The outflow cracked underneath and I have no idea how long it had been going on for. There was water buildup all along the towel I kept under the tank and the stand soaked some up too. Mold was beginning to grow on the wall behind it as well. The mold was just surface so I was able to kill the spores with vinegar and my local Petsmart exchanged me for a new filter. I am not trying to sway people from buying these filters (I currently run 5 and will run more in the future) but just a word of caution, be careful with the plastic. This seems a common place for them to break. Also if you didn't before I suggest doing a tank inspection every week when you change water, it is what I will be doing in the future to catch problems like these in the early stages.

good stuff almonze , I am a big AC fan, run quite a few 110. never the less good FYI.

they sell all the replacment parts and even the whole filter(not the pump which is seperate) The pump is the most expensive. bbut everything else is rather cheap. This is if you couldnt return it or anything. Ive had mine for 4-5yrs and no issues. just hard starts and thats about it.

I just had the same issue with my AC110, to buy a new box costs $40.00. I am going to try and seal the crack. Has anyone tried this before?

I have heard some have success if you lightly scuff the cracked area with sandpaper, then bond with Gorilla Glue Super Glue. Lots of saltwater guys swear by this sealant so it is aquarium safe. And yes I still love Aquaclear, and am not deterred because of this incident. I was going to repair mine but I got a brand new one for free and got to keep all of my old media. So basically a free new filter and media out of the deal, I wasn't too upset!

there is a little rubber o ring that goes in the back which seats the motor. Sometimes if motor is not properly instaled it will leak or if o ring is worn out. This happened to me on my 110 which was called a 500 originally. Aquaclear set me the part for free. Still best hob for the buck IMO.

My beef with AC's, incl. 110, is that they get noisy with time, to the point of objectionable. For me it happened in about 1-2 years of continuous use, despite cleaning and maintenance. As for a crack, I've repaired quite a few cracks in anything plastic with a soldering iron by melting.
