So I scored a pair of AC 110s off craigslist for $20 each but they didn't come with any media. No big deal right I just went down to my pet store to get some, but they don't have any bio media in bags. So I thought I would throw some pot scrubbies, but they don't seem to exist in my town. Drove around from store to store for an hour and a half and all I came up with are some open cell foam sponges.

What are you guys using in your AC110s and can I have just sponges without anything heavy sitting on top of them?

You could use PVC slivers in a badg, poly strapping, clay pot pieces...

Anything that will stay in the filter really.

sponges get the aqua clear sponges run dubble sponges. And when u go to clean the filters. Remove the bottom sponge clean that one and place on top the one u didnt clean

The local pet store wants $15 for a tiny little box of bio max and $30 a box for the Fluval bio cubes, looked like I would need about 2 boxes per filter so I passed. What I'm running is a layer of medium density open cell foam followed by really dense open cell foam that they use to pack electronics, I've been using it in my Aqueon filter on my 20 gal tank and it keeps the water crystal clear. After that I've got more open cell foam sponges with a rock sitting on top to keep them all from floating out. The water seems to be flowing just fine now but I'm gonna keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't get clogged.
