I love aqua clear filters if my tank didn't have a wet dry overflow I would still have one. To answer your question yes you can put in any type of media you want. I had 2 ac 70s one had biomax and the other had ammo chips. They kept my water super clean. The glass would cover in algae long before the water got murkie.

I use some Seachem Purigen the stuff works good and you can regenerate it over and over. Helps control impurities in the water.There Website is great and has allot of good info.
