Ok so I got my girlfriend a 10gallon starter kit for Christmas and it's fine. We are getting ready to set it up. (I know that's along time haha) but the filter that came with it was horrible. I am going to try to get one of the AquaClear Filters this week for her. I was thinking the 30 or 20 right now,I think she might want a small puffer. (I know they are brackish and become full marine when adults & will require more space obviously). I know she is going to want to upgrade eventually so would a 30 be to much filtration on a 10gallon I was thinking though if we got a 30 she would have a filter for her probably 20 long later on. Any suggestions, possibly suggestions on other stock that could be a sort of wet pet in a 10gallon.

I run the 50 and 70 on 10 and 15g tanks no problem. As long as the fish can stand the current the filters make its all good.

That's good to know I run a 50 on my 20gallon long, I feel like more filtration is always better but a 10gallon is a very small tank, I thought it might be to much current.

Any thoughts on a wet pet for a 10gallon besides a puffer? (I will be upgrading her tank when needed) I know she wants one but if I can avoid having to start a salt tank anytime soon I would love some ideas. (Not that I don't want one but I know if I do there are a whole line of expensive fish she would start looking at... & and possibly me haha)

All depends on what she wants. Personally I would go with an uncommon convict. You can get some pretty awesome color and patterns now.

For example I have Marble or pokadot convicts.

I have showed her cons before she doesn't like them much. She has seen my Green Terror and how it begs for food when I walk by, she wants a fish that is like a dog. I happened to show her a Dogfaced puffer at the lfs and she then saw the smaller brackish water versions and fell in love with it cause it was following her and playing in the bubbler.

If you're worried about having to start a salt tank too early, you can always go with pea puffers. They're pure freshwater and they only get about 1". Everytime I go to the lfs, the girls always fall in love with them. Plus they're cheap. I dunno if they're as personable since I've never owned one but my guess is that they would be since, like most puffers, they're pretty much fearless.
