aquaclear powerhead

i'm running powerhead 70 in a 90 gallon and typically the bubbles are big rather then being fine. I noticed when i put medicine in the water which is kind of sandy the bubbles become very fine, i like the bubbles much better like this. does anyone know how to make the fine bubbles come out of the powerhead without the medication in the water?
