I bought a used AC 110 today. Apparently the seller didn't tell me he didnt have the leveling piece. Should I buy a leveler or can I make a simple effective leveling tool at home? If I should buy it, where do you recommend to purchase?

Also it didn't come with a lid, which I knew. Do I need a lid?

I live in NYC.

Thanks!

I use a piece of spongy foam as a leveler device on a couple of used AC filters and they work just fine.

A lid would help keep the evaporation down a bit and might keep any fish from escaping if they should happen to jump into the filter. A quick fix would be a piece of aluminum foil molded to fit the top but make sure any condensation will drip back into the filter instead of on the floor.

EVEN A WADDED up piece of cardboard will work.... anything that will level it ..... by staying put between tank and filter ,without causing scratches or b/g to be messed up...:) lids on the ac 110 are not neccessary

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

I folded up several napkins which are holding up from the weight.

I did that but im talking about killing anything that might be harmful for my fish in case he had some sickness in his tank or the likes.

I clean used equipment and media with a weak bleach/water solution before using in my tanks. You must use a water conditioner to soak the media in after the bleaching process until the odor of bleach is gone.

The media basket is necessary to hold the sponges in the proper position and also facilitates removing the media from the filter housing.
