I am working on a design for a medium to large scale Aquaponics system. My system of tanks is made up by a grid of 16/4.
I will have a total of 16 tanks that will hold 2800 gallons each, these tanks will be 15' long, 5' wide, and 5' deep. The 16 tanks will be divided into sections of four. Each section will have its own sump tank and current/water flow system that will be designed to accommodate the species of fish being housed in each section.
For example, in one section, I'm housing channel catfish, so the water temperature in the sump tank is kept warm, and they are fed regularly. A slow current is maintained as well.
In another I am planning to house rainbow trout, so, of course, the water temperature will be kept cool, the current steady, and the feed consisting mostly of live prey and scavenge able meat items.
In the 3rd section I have feeder fish such as common goldfish and minnows, each species of feeder fish taking up two of the four available tanks respectively.
Now I have my 4th set of tanks, which I wish to stock with whatever freshwater fish I feel like raising at the time.
On my bucket list of fish to raise I have alligator gar, will the system I have set up be able to safely and healthy house alligator gar? and how many full size (3'-6') alligator gar will I be able to house in one of my 2800 gallon tank without aggression or overcrowding occurring?
I did a rough calculation and my numbers tell me about 15 to 20 adult gars around the same size can be housed in one tank, but that seems like an unrealistic number to me. Can any of the experienced alligator gar owners give me a realistic estimation, and tips on their care based on my planned set up?

Where is system would be ? In the basement ?
No. It will be outside, in a greenhouse structure. The waste from the fish is used to fertilize plants which are placed above the tanks. This takes place through pump systems, and the plants clean the water then it returns to the fish. So having it inside where there is no light would defeat the purpose of it being an Aquaponics system.

I have seen an aquaphonic system in the basement so thats the reason I asked. They were using the carp. All the best seems like an excellent idea and exciting too :) . 15 to 20 alligator gars seems to me a bit higher in numbers.

I agree, which is why I posted this forums post so experienced alligator gar owners could give me a more realistic estimation. I made this estimation by taking the gallons of my tank, and dividing it by the inches of a 6' alligator gar. I then minimized 1/3 of the numbers to give space for error and allow the alligator gars to have more freedom. The numbers ended up falling in the 15-20 range. Which, yeah, it seems a bit much. So I am looking for clarification.

If I may ask how much space you have because it a fairly big setup.
