lol an Oscar named Monsanto.... I could def see more hobbyists taking advantage of this concept.. and def plan on adding some plants to our set-up.. why not use edible ones? plenty of people utilize pothos ect to help their nitrate control why not grow species to suppliment your own kitchen? coming from an Italian family.. I can say tomatoes and basil are never abundent enough in our gardens. I would very much like to maintain an indoor herb garden offa one of our tanks in the future ( one more thing on the long list of "things to do to the house")
But I do agree it's not much better then battery cages for chickens in many cases... It's trying to get the proverbial most bang for your buck. And imo the animals aren't kept as well as they should be let alone can be. But i feel education would both improve productivity and the "quality of life" the fish are getting immensely.
As a Mom and a gardener and fishkeeper.. lol I have def had this concept on my to-do-list for some time now. for all you married guys.. might be a way to get the wife who gardens ect to embrace your tanks

if they don't already love the tank water for their crops.
The hardest part i think is haveing to avoid meds/chemicals ect... which with healthy fish/set-up shouldn't be an issue.
atm about 200gallons a week goes into our sump instead of down our drain and gets pumped into the yard... nice big grow spot already lol.
