Anyone done it?

Im thinking about setting up a system for it..

It would be pretty cool to have a aquarium that grows plants with the nutrients from fish waste.

i grow plants in gravel in my pond to absorb the nitrates from my pond . next year im gona try growing tomatos in my filter

ehh, not the same thing.

dont you mean hydrophonics ?

always though aquaphonics was growing plants constantly submersed while hydrophics is just the roots under water ?

I will use my 25g for this.

I will have it barebottom(no gravel)

I will have a piece of styrofoam, or some sort of matriel that floats, and i will cut it to be able to float around, but not float around too much, it will have about a inch or two around the outside of it, so it will be able to float a bit.

Then i will have holes cut for the plants to fit into, there roots will be hanging in the water, while all of the foilage is sitting outside of the water.

There will be 2 big areator's providing oxygen to the roots.

I will also cover the back and sides of the aquarium, to be sure as little light gets to the roots as possible.(it would be smart to cover the front of it too, but then i wont be able to enjoy it as much...so ill take my chances)

As far as lighting goes, im not sure yet, but i will figure somthing out.
I will also be using the exsisting powerfilter.

As far as fish for the aquarium...what do you guys think?

No.

Hydroponics is growing plants without soil.
Aquaponics is a combination of Aquaculture(fish farming) and Hydroponics.

sounds good what you gonna stock it with ? also how will you see the fish if the styrophon is blocking the light ?

Im not sure, im thinking some small Cats???

There be some light coming in.
Just not a whole lot.

I've used aquaponics before it worked quite well, only problem I came across was I couldnt find a pump that would let solids pass through, so the tank was always filled with poo.
