Currently the bath tub has a picture window (ie not open-able) behind it, 6ft wide x 4ft tall. Behind the window is a small side yard with a brick wall about 4ft from the window; Matured shrubs in between the wall and the window.

I am thinking of replacing the window with a 6ft (long) x 18" (wide) x 2ft (deep) tank. Anyone has done something crazy like that? Quite sure it wouldn't meet building code anymore but insulation wise, the tank ought to do well enough? So instead of a 4ft tall window, the bottom 2ft would be an aquarium and the top 2ft would be glass, with the glass dipping a few inches into the water.

The house is near Palm Springs where summer is very hot and winter quite warm (ie upper 60s) with very few cold days. The windows faces west but with a brick wall behind it and matured vegetation, very little direct sun light.

Thought?

No help but i.m planning something similar in outdoor bathroom i'm building so i'm interested to see feedback on your plan.

I was just thinking about turning my down stairs bath tube into a fish tank lol. Its never used.. was thinking if I mounted a piece of glass at the tubes rim. The picture is just like what I got.. Just dreaming... will probably never to it lol

might be able to help or give idea, pm me, take some pictures of the setup. i build custom homes, i know what can be altered. safely.
i love palm springs! beautiful there.

Sounds like it would be cool to have that, but completely replacing the window I have an image that pops into my head. I don't think I would take the chance of having a bird or anything else have a chance of breaking the glass on my aquarium (including fish, etc.). That would be alot more money to replace the aquarium than a window.

True, but one can change the window into sort of garden window or bay window to accommodate the tank?

Using a bay window would be really cool, if you do it I'd also recommend adding an extra layer of UV protection to the window. I'd hate for your fish to get to much sun and bake in the water, if that window get much sun that is. But keep us posted if you do it. It would be a cool venture to see.
