At what size does an aquarium start needing a center brace? I was looking at a All-Glass 36"x18"x17" earlier and I noticed that it doesn't have a center brace. On glasscages.com their same size tank has a center brace.

Tanks that are over 50G .. i think ;)

They had a 46g bowfront next to it and it had a center brace.

Its a combination of things,a standard 55g will bow quite a bit but ive seen older 75g4' and 125g 6' tanks with no braces and no bow.glass thickness frame thickness and length all come into play.most recent 4' and longer have a brace every 2' most 3' tanks dont have them

I'm not sure on the frame but the glass looked to be about 1/4" thick.

My 3 foot has a brace. Glass is only 6mm and its 18" high. Been working for 30+ years. My 2ft doesnt have a brace. But I would say every tank 3ft and bigger performs better with a brace.

According to common guidelines, a 3 foot by 1.5 panel with no top brace should be 10mm thick to provide adequate safety margins. Are you familiar with euro-bracing?
