Hey guys i have a 55 gallon tank, i also have a 20 gallon tank that is fully cycled and has been running for a few year, i have heard of something called seeding where you use the filter from a cycled aquarium and you can get a instant cycle can any one explain how to do this and how long i have to wait for the tank to be cycled, iv'e had to do a fishless cycle for all my tanks and i have to wait so long for the tank to cycle fully, if this is true this will help me save alot of time :D so plz help !!!

As long as the used filtration doesn't have too high of nitrates or ammonia it should be fine in a day. But make it 2 to be safe to see if water clouds. If it clouds there is an imbalance in the buffer system

If the filter is seeded it wont have ammonia or nitrites built up in it! Just put the old filter on, fill tank up with dechlor water and plug in, if you have bio media it should work within hours, id let it run like that for 12 hrs then remove the old filter insert and put it in the new filter.

Just test, I run 1.5 gal of bio media so when I set up new tanks its perfect within an hour!

Well not exactly true. If you use Ye same filter media such as the mesh bag and cotton it will leave traces of ammonia and nitrates. But if you use a new filtration cartridge it will be clean though not as much bacteria to start the new tank

When I set up my 2nd 50 gal I seeded it by taking half of the water from the first and putting it in the 2nd then filled the remainder with clean water. I then put the topfin hob filter with seeded media off my original tank (came with the filter, I got the kit at PetSmart) and put that on the new tank because I had since added a canister filter. I let that run for a day and it never had a bacterial bloom

Tank water has very little to NO bb in it, just nitrates, its suggested to always us fresh water when setting up a tank

^^ ammonia and nitrites ONLY exist on a uncycled tank
