Hey I travel a lot for work. I can be gone for four weeks at a time from home. I really want to get back into the hobby but am apprehensive. Does anyone have solutions for proper filtration and such with out having to have an Aquatic service guy come handle things while I'm gone. My wife can feed the fish but has been quite clear she doesn't want to be overwhelmed with water changes and such. I have a 10' X 30'' X 30''. I wanted to house Arowana and such. If anyone has any ideas on which route to go that would be great. I was thinking of an automatic water changing system but I don't know anyone who has set this up before.
Thanks, Ryan.

Yea +1 on the drip system but you could also set up a big sump, feed only what is needed and be very lightly stocked and you could probably go 4 weeks without a wc...

Never had to do it but I would think that would work, still sounds like drip system is better to if you can set it up

I'm in the process of building one for my 430 gal aquarium. My only problem is deciding how much water to drip per hour. I live off of a water catchment system so I got two 300 gal water storage units. I blocked of a section of my gutter on my roof to fill the containers when it rains. It rains often where I live so I should be able to run a fairly consistent drip by alternating between containers as needed. I'll be using my dyi over flow pipes to divert excess water outside my home for hydroponic use. Hope to have most of it. setup this weekend. I'll post pics for u if it helps. Posting pics and getting feedback always helps me evolve my filtration system.

Light stocking + auto water changer/top up + big bead filter that can easily be bachwashed would be the answer IMO. If you have the tank plumbed into the mains with an auto top off I'm sure your wife would be able to backwash the filter once a week or however often it needed it, probably less if you're lightly stocked.
