Best I can explain, the water looks like theres a swirling mist or fog. Any ideas what it could be? Filters get changed about once a week, about 75% water change every couple of weeks. No, I dont have test results. The strips dont indicate an issue, and yes, I know theyre not very accurate. This swirling mist, it came on quite suddenly for no apparent reason. It diminishes with a water change, but within a day its back to a thick mist. Im thinking maybe a bacterial/algae bloom? How can I get rid of it? Ill try to get a video tomorrow. Other than vision being limited, fish show no negative reaction to it.
Its a 125g
Wet/dry rated for 300g
Temp around 76ish

The fact that it diminishes, then returns, indicates to me its something in the water as opposed to the water quality itself. Any ideas?

You mean it looks cloudy?

Some possibility I read as I was facing the same problem after I went overseas for 10 days with no water change

1) over aeration
2) bacteria bloom
3) too much bioload
4) I think feeding frozen prawn may cause it too

things got slightly better after I did twice 50% weekly water changes and readjusted the outflow from canister.... then I added 4 bunches of java fern and things have all cleared up

What do you mean when you say you clean your filters weekly???

Im guessing thats the cause of the issue since you maybe washing away all your BB everytime you clean / change your filter as you would say...

Its a wet dry, im only changing the prefilters. Bioballs stay in there.

Hmmmmm... i guess its still possible though, since even pre-filters will contain a bit of BB???

Maybe try not cleaning the pre-filters for a week and see if it solves your problem??? Unless of course they get super dirty...

How long has the tank been setup? If its a newer tank it sounds pretty normal. Sounds like a bacteria bloom.
What do you have for stock? Unless way overstocked you shouldn't have to change filter pads every week. Give it time and it should go away. Try not to overfeed.

I dont know i change my filter socks a couple of times a week and if hes changing the mech weekly wouldnt that have 0 impact on his bb since none are colonizing in that short amount of time
