Ask this in the Shark/Ray part of the saltwater section.... you'll get a lot of good info.

Think BIG.... for a a black tip you need a LOT of swimming space. I'd start off with a 24-26' round pool to raise pups and plan for something bigger as they grow.

Ditto to what Matt said. Think very, very big when it comes to keeping either of these reef sharks.

From what I've read on this site, from people who keep sharks, you want something circular, or oval, that's 5-6 times the length of the shark in diameter. That's a round pool that's anywhere between 25 to 30 feet in diameter, and a height of about 6 feet. And that's minimum. This is because the blacktip reef shark is an obligate ram ventilator and therefore must swim continuously in order to breathe. Whitetip reef sharks aren't ORV sharks, so they might be okay in something smaller, but since you want to put them together, you need the bigger pool.

I hate it when Matt chimes in and gives more excellent info than me, seriously, what does the guy know about fish keeping?(j/k Matt););)

I only do linking to threads(with salt water), saltwater is not my thing, sorry just trying to show you an example.

Read the thread I linked, some great info in that, not just the keeping an awesome build.

I sort of disagree with keeping black tips in home aquaria. I think they should be left in the sea, but if I moved house, and we moved into a house with a basement, I would probably cut off a 30ftx20ft area and try to house one.

Now that we're in the 'good' section .... ;)

I'm sure a few black tip owners will chime in with their set ups and thoughts.
I will ask one thing: Pacific black tip reef or Atlantic black tip??? And yes, it will matter.

I don't know what you guys think but black tips reefs are about the easiest ORV sharks to keep and a full grown one would need about 700 square feet or so to be happy. I am more or a white tip guy myself.:D
