Is there any kind of workable aquarium glue (for freshwater tanks) or do I just have to figure out how to make the silicone sealant work?

My goal is to glue pieces of gravel to a half a cup for a hiding place for my axolotl. Possibly glue some down to the floor of his tank too so he can't eat the pieces (or is this a bad idea all around).

Sand isn't working out very well for me because it keeps pearling and floating to the surface.

how hard is it to figure silicone out?

Just use a brush, smear it over the cup and roll the cup around the gravel.

I believe silicone will work just fine for that application (make sure its 100% silicone, don't buy the stuff with anti-mildew agent in it!). Or a LFS would have a small tube of aquarium sealant/glue that would work. And glue it down if you want! Just make sure you are using the correct stuff that won't harm the fish.

@ spirit: I haven't tried to use the silicone yet. I was told by someone else that it would be difficult because it has the consistency of caulk.

@big: Thanks for the info. I was planning on using the stuff from the LFS just to be certain that it wouldn't do anything to the water. But if I could get it from Home Depot of Menard's (the 100% stuff) I'll do that instead.

Wow.

regular cyanoacrylate glue (crazy glue) is safe. I use it all the time to glue coral frags, works great.

u must remove the old glue first.
