Interesting link. Says I need 175W heater for 8'x42"x24" tank. I'm using a 300W.

At least in my experience different brands use their wattage more effectively. I have had 900w knock off titanium heaters that could barely keep a 90 gallon at temp but a 300w jager had no problem.

I am running mine right about where I want it according to the calculator. I run two heaters, If either one of them get stuck on it still wouldn't be able to over heat my tank but both can handle it easily
