Just wondering if anyone has had a heater resting on pond liner before?

I have an OF shogun which has a protective guard, I'm guessing this will be fine to sit on the liner?

Hmm.. I wouldn't risk it myself. How big is the pond? If I tried that, I'd set the heater on a glass plate.

agree with the previous posters, as you'd be surprised how much heat can still come out... i mean if you think about it, the guards are designed to just prevent direct contact with the heater if a fish brushes past it, but doesn't stop heat from dispersing, so after a prolonged period, i'd be worried the heater may still be able to burn through the pond liner...

I tried it years ago but wouldn't recommend it. I tossed 3 thousand watt heaters in a 2000g outside aquaponic res, trying spawn out some cichlids. I pulled the heaters after the spawn and could see a faded section in the liner around the heaters. So yeah, not a good idea. It also jacked my electricity thru the roof. There are better ways to heat....

It's an 8'x5'x20" intex pool in my garage.

Thanks for the replies guys, they are sitting on top of my diy bucket filters at the moment. I guess they can just stay there!

For my Intex pools I put the heater on something that won't melt, a square of tile works well. For large fish it often needs to be wedged in between something in case they get rowdy, it can be knocked off.

If I'm not mistaken this is a big No No isn't it? Any contact with the glass on the lower part that heats up will create hot spots which is rather dangerous?
