does the type of lighting play a huge roll? petcetra is right on my way to work always. every other store is way out of the way... I need a new tube bulb for my aquarium but they don't have any 2' bulb's .. only 2' that is for reptile's .. which is in a different section. would this be safe for the fish? or should i wait a few days. have them stuck under an ordinary lamp till i can get to and different store?

I would just use the ordinary lamp until you can get to that store and get what you want.

ya. we dont have a big al's here though is the thing .. so i managed to pick up a new bulb .. and its not working. im starting to think it's my light that is broken not the bulb. because when the bulb went last time. out of no where it just turned off and started smoking .. thought it was going to catch fire. but just assumed it went out. thought about it just now. this happened around the same time my filter screwed up and put a bit of water on the top of the tank before it dribbled into the tank for a few days. thinking the light might have got wet and so the bulb wont work.
