I know have everything I need for my 90 gallon cichlid tank minus the lighting. I'm not sure what to do or get. I have heard rumors that you can go to Lowes and just purchase some lights, but I'm not sure what to look for. I am a college student so I want something inexpensive. But something that will look presentable and give enough light for my fish. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just bought a couple of double fluorescent tube 48" shop lights for my tank. They were on sale for $9.98 each minus the bulbs.

You could use the lights at Lowes/Home Depot and just build a hood. Check sites like craigslist and the classifieds section here...you may find a hood for short money there.

aquaglo 18k bulbs look really good... them plus a 10$ fixture from HD or Lowes you can paint the fixtures out side black....

how's the light distribution on those? i was looking at them today at wally world but i had doubts about how focused a shop light (as in, lights up a whole shop) would be, like if you had to pretty much have the light near touching your water to get all the light into your aquarium.
