I have been using a walmart special strip light on my tanks up until yesterday. Since my old one crapped out I have been trying to find a cheap strip light with the on off switch on the side but they dont seem to make them any more so... I bought the bullet and purchased a Coralife T-5 light with the Colormax full spectrum tube. WOW I am not sure who's fish those are in my tank but I had no idea how much more vibrant my choice of light could make them!!!

I am going to pick up lights for my other tanks as well and since there are so many different tubes available maybe someone could help me choose the right ones to bring out the best in my fish.

The one tank will be full of SA/CA cichlids, Pbass, RT, etc.
The other tank will have African cichlids. Johanni, Peacock, electric yellow, etc.

Which type of lights would be best for these fish? The lfs has a tank where his venustus and peacock have an almost neon glow to them, he insists that it is just the quality of the specimens but I suspect that his choice of lighting plays more than a small part in it.

Ya i think his lighting is so blame Too:) ASS:) ANyway show us!!! Pics

rofl I like T5's they are freaking tops, I have 4 on order from another state, and I have a 5ft one on my mrs' O tank. they seem to like it too, and its small! and no flickering! I love no starters! :)

yes the t5's are amazing. i use them on 2 of my tanks at home and own 3 strips.

for your tank with the S/A fish i would just stick with the standard freshwater strip, with the coralmaxx and the 6700 plant light.

for your tank with africans i would get the saltwater one with the 10000K and the actinic bulb. it will really bring out the colors of the fishes then.

I REPLACED MY OLD WHITE FLO LIGHTS WITH T5 FULL SPECTRUM NATURAL SUNLIGHT TUBES AND YEAH WOW HUGE DIFFERENCE .I GOT THEM AT HOME DEPOT 10 BUCKS A TUBE. DO NOT GET THE PLANT/AQARIUM BRAND THEY SUCK YELLOW ORANGE LIGHT DISSTORTS COLORS OF THE TANK. NATURAL SUNLIGHT TUBES ARE GREAT FOR AQARIUMS AND PLANTS GO GET SOME.

Those lights from home depot look good but they grow algea like no other.
